When considered together with its sub-sectors, supporting industries, and suppliers, the metal industry constitutes a large economy. During consultations, the need for companies to provide intermediate goods, inputs, machines, or spare parts has been frequently emphasized. In this context, İŞGEM is believed to offer significant advantages to such new ventures. These advantages are not limited to proximity to the target market (i.e., large metal industry firms located in the Organized Industrial Zone) and İŞGEM’s own benefits. Such firms can also directly benefit from OSB and KOSGEB incentives.

Reports by DOĞAKA indicate that mechanical and electrical support services for the OSB—such as maintenance, repair, re-manufacturing of machinery parts, spare parts production, heat treatment facilities, and trade of hydraulic parts—are mostly sourced from neighboring provinces such as Adana, Gaziantep, İskenderun, and Kahramanmaraş.

This indicates a supply gap in Osmaniye for these products and services. If Osmaniye-based companies can fill this gap, it would prevent leakage to other provinces and give local firms a comparative advantage due to proximity.

İskenderun OSB and the soon-to-be-established Ceyhan-Yumurtalık Energy Region are considered alternative markets that companies within İŞGEM operating in this sector can serve.

It is expected that companies engaged in machinery and spare parts production in İŞGEM will also serve not only iron-steel firms but other industrial sectors. Prominent machinery types in Osmaniye include those used in the food industry, as well as agricultural, textile, olive, and pistachio processing. Considering İŞGEM’s relation to the OSB and the needs of existing industrial companies, machinery and spare parts production is seen as offering new opportunities for entrepreneurship in Osmaniye. Among all related industries, metalworking stands out as the most prioritized sector.
